Cat-Like?

The cat stalks by night

The kill exciting - not swift

But when morning comes ‘round

Its prey’s deemed dull - then left!

Are humans so different?

Sophisticated! Yet the same

Romance arouses similar thrills

Then fades limp and lame

The cat follows its instinct

Without analysis or thought

A man dreams, has high hopes

Schemes which come to nought

A cat is sure-footed -

Not a human trait!

We are liable to weakness

Emotional investment - mistakes!

Man lives within memories

Cruel, draining and sad

Tricked by futile desires

Pipe-dreams go inevitably bad

Depressed by pointless chase

Experience should teach a lesson

Of the snakes and ladders of life

Not a delible impression

We cannot see like the cat

Nor understand a persons' closed-mind

It's just flickering optimism

When we tread like a man who is blind

If answers don't consciously form

Should we learn from our feline friends

Who live life on wits so

Never entrust or depend?

A sleepless quandary?

Crazy questions abound

More treading of water

Energy submerged then drowned!
